The Astounding 1985-86 Memory Book

Founders, originators, teachers and students look back and tell their best stories!

11/19/2025

THIS PUBLICATION, from June 1986, contains the richest trove so far of stories by prominent MLC originators (as of November 2025).

Memories appears to have been put together by a team of fourteen students, nominally under the wing of Betty Mayther. Somehow they got hold of a who's-who of earlier adults and students and persuaded them to submit revealing and substantial reminiscences, recollections, reconstructions, and other writings.

WHAT STORIES! You'll find good, often spectacular, often very salty, often hilarious, sometimes soulful looks inside the unguarded brains of Amasa, Emil, Betty, Manny, Mary, Gail, Lew, Lewis, and Leah, John Morrison, Tim Hill and David Chelsea, Jeannette Sharp and Brice Pace, Ralph Lorance and Craig Johnson, Elijah Mirochnik and Ann Bethune.

To these the student editors added more than fifty other lovely short reminiscences by then-current and then-recent students and adults.

Memories has been knocking around the physical (and electronic) archives, all these years, and made appearances at the 50th Anniversary Celebration and the recent MLC History Night.

Now here it is for your full and leisurely absorption. The page images were evidently shot by iPhone, and some bleed off the edges, but they are almost completely legible—yet will be replaced by better shots before too long.

If you have additional recollections, stories, or observations about Memories, please let us know!
