Shaw Stories from Rex Ettlin, Lila Guenther, Christopher Hoyt, and Robert Irwin

4/9/2026

FOND MEMORIES. I got to go once, ‘69 ish, 11-12 yrs old ??? ... with the Taylors. Immediate memories: canoeing around the island; polar bear plunge; waking up in a barn by myself, went to the house, somebody made me breakfast, and away I went for the day.

Rex Ettlin, 2025

I think I went there ... I think I remember sleeping in a hammock and seeing bats flying around, and being amazed by the bats. And I think I remember hay rides. Long time ago.

Lila Guenther, 2025

Shaw Island with John Angell. Hay rides, boat rides. Those bracelets made from melted nylon had pieces of colored tape wrapped around them for things completed. Bunch of crazy things as I remember it, like "catch a shark."

Christopher Hoyt, 2025

I wish I had photos. I remember Rosie the pig and young kids smearing glowing phosphorescent jellyfish goo on their faces at night. Wonderful time. I would love to see photos. Also the ride to Shaw Island was memorable.

Robert Irwin, 2025

Rex Ettlin; Christopher Hoyt.
